Check Engine Light

Check Engine Light

The Check Engine light on a vehicle is designed to be a warning sign to the driver. Many times this warning sign is ignored for long periods of time. While your Check Engine or Service Engine Soon light coming on doesn’t necessarily mean that your vehicle is experiencing a major failure, it is important that you have your vehicle serviced as soon as possible to avoid what may be something simple evolving into a potentially dangerous malfunction and costly repair. In the meantime, there are a few things you can do yourself:

  • Look for serious problems like low oil pressure or overheating. If you can see steam or smoke rising from beneath your hood or notice a burning smell, you should pull over and shut the vehicle off as soon as you can find a safe place to park.
  • Tighten your gas cap. Sometimes the solution is as simple as tightening your gas cap and once this is done, the light may turn off.
  • Reduce your speed and lighten your load, if possible. These measures can help out your car while you head to an Eagle Transmission shop to have it diagnosed and potentially prevent further damage.

If your check engine light is on, bring your vehicle to Eagle Transmission of Mansfield as soon as possible. One of our highly skilled technicians can scan your vehicle and determine what is causing the issue. Once we diagnose the problem, we can get your vehicle back up and running safely.
